Trick-or-Treating, Events & Festive Fun in the GTA

October in the Greater Toronto Area is one of the most event-packed months of the year. The city and its surrounding communities lean fully into the season, filling parks, heritage sites, streets, and theatres with festivals, markets, tours, and celebrations for every age and taste. If you are looking for things to do between now and Halloween, you won't have to look far.

Family Festivals and Outdoor Celebrations

Some of the most popular fall events in the GTA are the free, family-oriented festivals that take over parks and public spaces throughout the month. High Park's Halloween Howl is a nature-themed afternoon event that draws families from across the city and tends to fill up fast. Riverdale Farm hosts its beloved Boo at the Barn with free pumpkin carving and crafts in one of Toronto's most charming settings. The Bentway, the unexpected event space tucked beneath the Gardiner Expressway, runs its Howl'oween event with a costume contest, live music, and vendors. The Kingsway in Etobicoke hosts its annual Pumpkinfest with pumpkin decorating and family entertainment along one of the city's most picturesque commercial strips — and if you're looking for a home base in the neighbourhood, our Lake Promenade apartments put you steps from the waterfront and minutes from all of it.

For dog owners, October is also a banner month. Downsview Park hosts Howl-o-ween Unleashed, an off-leash Halloween event, and the Junction Farmers Market features a dog costume contest alongside pumpkin painting and seasonal vendors.

Trick-or-Treating Events

Beyond traditional doorstep trick-or-treating, several neighbourhoods and BIAs organize their own community events on and around October 31. Halloween in Corso Italia is a Little Italy favourite, with face painting, pumpkin displays, and a festive street atmosphere. Bloor West Village runs a Halloween Fest with pumpkin carving and family photos, while Uptown Yonge's HauntUP brings costume contests and live entertainment to the Yonge and Lawrence corridor. Residents at our Redpath Towers near Yonge Street are well placed to enjoy the festivities on foot.

Ghost Tours and Spooky Experiences

For those who prefer their October with a little more edge, Toronto has a strong lineup of ghost tours and haunted experiences. The Original Haunted Walk of Toronto is a long-running guided tour that covers the city's most storied locations, while the Spirits of the Distillery District tour explores the darker history of one of Toronto's most atmospheric neighbourhoods. Both run throughout the month and are worth booking early. For something more theatrical, candlelight Halloween concerts at historic venues across the city offer an elegant and genuinely eerie evening out.

Arts, Culture, and Día de los Muertos

October does not have to end on October 31. Evergreen Brickworks hosts its Good Mourning Festival in early November, a Día de los Muertos celebration with art, music, and community programming that has become one of the city's most meaningful fall events. It is a beautiful way to close out the season on a reflective and festive note.

With so much happening across the region this month, the hardest part is choosing where to start. Check event websites for confirmed dates and ticket availability, as many of these sell out quickly.
